Urs Hölzle oversaw the infrastructure that powers Google's services and (generative) AI for many years. He joined as the company's first vice president of engineering and led the development of Google's original technical infrastructure from the early onset. He has been setting standards in terms of energy efficiency and technical performance with his team ever since. Under his guidance Google was the first major technology company to become carbon neutral in 2007, meeting 100% of its electricity consumption from renewable sources in 2017.

Hölzle grew up in Switzerland and earned a master's degree in computer science from ETH Zurich and a doctorate from Stanford University. He is the author of a popular textbook on hyperscale infrastructures, numerous scientific papers and US patents. Urs Hölzle is active in the Swiss Academy of Engineering Sciences and the US National Academy of Engineering.
